Lets discuss DoseSpot Configuration & Prescription Management
The purpose of this workflow is to standardize the configuration, management, and use of DoseSpot. Proper setup and user management ensure providers can safely and efficiently prescribe medications while maintaining compliance with electronic prescribing regulations.
This procedure outlines the recommended workflow for configuring DoseSpot users, managing prescribing roles, activating controlled substance prescribing, and submitting electronic prescriptions.
DoseSpot is CareStack’s integrated electronic prescribing platform that allows providers to:
| 1 | Submit Prescriptions Electronically |
| 2 | Manage Medication Workflows |
| 3 | Delegate prescription preparation tasks to staff |
DoseSpot is configured at the individual user level, meaning practices are responsible for maintaining active and accurate user access as staffing changes occur.
Before providers can begin electronic prescribing, DoseSpot access must be configured and activated.
How do we Access the DoseSpot Configuration?
Navigate to:
| Practice Settings → Services → DoseSpot → Configure |
This section allows administrators to activate, manage, and deactivate DoseSpot users.
To activate a provider:
Locate clinician tab and the user within the DoseSpot configuration screen.
This is where we choose the type of prescriber once we filled in all the details
Mark the provider as Active.
Once activated, DoseSpot will begin the verification process.
DoseSpot user verification typically completes within:
24–48 hours
During this time, the provider’s prescribing access is validated before activation is finalized.
Providers who prescribe controlled substances must complete additional verification and security steps to comply with electronic prescribing regulations.
Identity Proofing (IDP)
The provider must first complete the required:
Identity Proofing (IDP) Verification
This process validates the provider’s identity for Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances (EPCS).
After completing IDP verification, the provider must contact CareStack Support to initiate:
Two-Factor Authentication (TFA)
Important Note
Providers cannot electronically prescribe controlled substances until TFA setup has been fully completed.
This security requirement is mandatory for EPCS compliance.
When a provider leaves the organization or no longer requires prescribing access, their DoseSpot subscription should be deactivated promptly.
To deactivate a user:
Navigate to:
Practice Settings → Services → DoseSpot → ConfigureLocate the provider.
Select Deactive
Mark the provider as Inactive.
Maintaining an accurate active user list helps ensure proper licensing compliance and subscription management.
DoseSpot supports multiple user roles, allowing practices to delegate prescription-related tasks while maintaining appropriate prescribing permissions.
Users assigned the Prescriber role can:
Add prescriptions
Edit prescriptions
Send or print non-controlled prescriptions
Send or print controlled substance prescriptions
Prescribers have full electronic prescribing access within DoseSpot.
Users assigned the Proxy User role can:
Add prescriptions
Edit prescriptions within the system
Limitations
Proxy Users:
Cannot send prescriptions
Cannot print official prescriptions
Any printed prescriptions will display a watermark stating:
“Copy – Not for Dispensing”
This role is ideal for administrative or preparatory workflows where prescription drafting assistance is needed without prescribing authority.
What if we need to enter a Paper Prescription
Here are some situations where it would be needed:
DoseSpot activation is still pending
Electronic prescribing is unavailable
A paper prescription is required
Providers may manually enter and print paper prescriptions for patients.
This allows prescribing workflows to continue uninterrupted while maintaining documentation within the patient chart.
