Optimize Patient Check-In & Tablet-Based Workflows with CareStack

To ensure a seamless patient check-in and treatment presentation experience using CareStack, this guide outlines our recommended device specifications and best practices for setting up kiosks or using tablets in your practice.

Recommended Devices & Browsers

Preferred Devices

Use modern devices to ensure optimal performance and compatibility.

  • Apple iPad (10th Gen and above) – Running iPadOS 16 or later
  • Apple iPad Air / iPad Pro – Running iPadOS 16 or later
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S Series – S8, S9 or newer
  • Microsoft Surface – Running full Windows OS

Not Supported: Kindle Fire tablets or other devices that do not support a full desktop-class browser experience.

Recommended Browsers

  • Google Chrome (Latest Version) – Strongly preferred for using the Patient Connect Portal.

Other Browsers (Use only if necessary)

  • Safari
  • Microsoft Edge

⚠️ Important: Using Safari or Edge may result in layout limitations or restricted functionality. Always use Google Chrome where possible.

Best Practice: Use Patient Connect for Kiosk & Tablet Use

Instead of opening the full CareStack portal on an iPad — which is not optimized for mobile browser use — we strongly recommend using Patient Connect, available in two supported modes:

1. Office Mode (Assisted Check-In)

  • Used by front desk staff to assist patients with the check-in process.
  • Recommended for presenting Treatment Plans using a tablet or iPad.
  • Allows manual control over intake steps and document completion.

2. Kiosk Mode (Self Check-In)

  • Designed for patients to independently complete intake and consent forms.
  • Ideal for contactless check-ins and reducing front desk workload.
  • Works best in waiting areas with locked-down browser access. 

Security & Compliance Tips

  • Ensure that kiosk or check-in iPads are locked to the appropriate Patient Connect URL.
  • Disable auto-fill or password save in browser settings to maintain HIPAA compliance.
