CareStack's integration with DoseSpot enables your practice to create and securely send patient prescriptions electronically, saving time and reducing the risk of errors. Ensure your practice has configured DoseSpot for efficient use of this feature including Identity Proofing (IDP) and Two Factor Authentication (TFA).
Follow these steps to send an e-prescription for a patient:
- Search for the intended patient using the Global Search Bar.
- Click the + Presc. (Prescription) quick link at the top.
In the Prescriptions slide-out,
Click on + E-Prescription to begin prescribing.
This will open a new slide-out with the DoseSpot landing page.
In the patient's DoseSpot profile, you can:
- Edit their information.
- Add/Edit Drug Allergies.
- Add/Edit preferred pharmacies.
- View insurance coverage details.
- Add a prescription for the patient.
To add a prescription,
Click Add Prescription.
- Enter the medication name into the search bar.
- Choose the form (e.g., tablet, liquid) from the list of medications.
| Tip: If you have favorited a medication, you can find it easily under My Favorites. |
Select the medication strength.
Review the Pharmacy Information.
| Note: To select a pharmacy for a patient, it must first be added to their profile. This can be done by using the Add/Edit Pharmacies option within the patient's profile. |
To edit Pharmacy Information, click Change.
- Select the desired pharmacy from the list of added pharmacies.
OR
- Click Search Pharmacies to add a new pharmacy.
- Enter the Effective Date for the prescription.
- Enter Patient Directions, Amount to Dispense, Dispense Unit, number of allowed Refills, and if applicable, the Days Supply.
- To add pharmacy notes, click the + icon next to Show Pharmacy Notes.
- Choose from Common Notes or create a new one by typing in the text box.
- Select No Substitutions if no alternatives are desired.
- Select Urgent to mark the prescription as urgent.
- Choose Save As Favorite to save the prescription for future use.
- Finally, click Save Prescription.
- A toast notification stating 'Successfully saved prescription' will appear on the top.
- Saved prescriptions will be added to the Pending Medications queue.
To send the prescription,
- Select the desired prescription.
- Click Approve and Send.
- Enter your PIN.
- Click Submit to confirm.

You will then be redirected to the Active Medications tab, where you can check the prescription’s status and verify its delivery.
Use the Actions dropdown to Reorder or Remove prescriptions.
You can also view Inactive Medications and the patient's Medication History by selecting the respective tabs.
Once the prescription has been entered and sent, you can view the prescription details on the system such as the medication. sender, date, and time it was sent.
